Botox vs Dysport: Which Is Right for You?
If you’re considering wrinkle reduction treatments, you’ve probably heard of Botox and Dysport. Both are popular, FDA-approved injectable treatments that soften fine lines and wrinkles by relaxing facial muscles. While they are very similar, there are a few important differences that can help determine which one is best for your face and goals.
At Sonoma MD, we offer both Botox and Dysport and customize every treatment plan to achieve natural-looking results.
BEFORE
AFTER
-
Botox is a neuromodulator made from botulinum toxin type A. It works by temporarily relaxing targeted facial muscles that cause dynamic wrinkles, such as forehead lines, frown lines, and crow’s feet. By reducing muscle movement, the skin appears smoother and more refreshed.
Botox has been used safely in both medical and cosmetic treatments for decades and is one of the most researched aesthetic treatments in the world.
-
Dysport is also a neuromodulator made from botulinum toxin type A and works in the same way as Botox by relaxing wrinkle-causing facial muscles.
-
Both treatments:
Reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
Are FDA-approved and medically safe when performed by trained providers
Take only a few minutes to administer
Have little to no downtime
Last about 3 to 4 months for most patients
Produce natural-looking, temporary results
Take only a few minutes to administer (30 minute appointments)
-
1. Onset of Results
Dysport often begins working slightly faster, sometimes within 2–3 days.
Botox typically takes 3–7 days to show results.both are 2 week onset
2. Spread
Dysport spreads a bit more, which can be helpful for treating broader areas like the forehead.
Botox is slightly more precise, making it ideal for smaller, targeted areas.
3. Units
The units are the same as Sonoma MD constitute them the same so they units are 1:1
The protein on top of the neurotoxin, Dysport is non-vegan because the protein channel comes from cow's milk protein
